Inertial Aerosystems has released the SD1500, a MEMS-based true tactical inertial measurement unit manufactured by Systron Donner Inertial. The exceptional performance of this product (1deg/hr) is based on a new generation of SDI's quartz MEMS inertial sensor technology.
The quartz technology enables high-volume production of precisely machined sensor structures combined with the inherent large signal output and thermal stability of quartz materials. The SD1500 is a compact six-axis IMU incorporating SDI's next-generation quartz gyros, quartz accelerometers and high-speed signal processing. The solid-state quartz sensors and sealed IMU construction provide reliable 25,000+ hours MTBF and a 20-year operating and storage life. Continuous built-in test (BIT), configurable communications protocols, electromagnetic interference (EMI) protection, and flexible input power requirements make this versatile product easy to use in a range of higher order integrated-system applications.
Operating temperature range is -55 to +85C. High quality components with high-speed advanced signal processing deliver an in-run drift of less than one degree per hour. Ideal where space and weight are at a premium, it measures 73.6 x 73.6cm and weighs 589kg. The SDI500 has been tested and is rated for rugged military underwing captive carry vibration and full military temperature-range operation. It is ideal for tactical aerospace, munitions and platform stabilisation applications. Although primarily designated for the military market, it has many commercial applications.
